MayHem and AniMAYzement this month

The weird words above are just twists on two of the many, many cons happening this month. May-hem is a horror con in Florida May 27 – 29, and Animazement is an anime con in North Carolina the same weekend. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves here. There are so many more cons to tell you about this month that we’ll have to break them into bite-sized pieces for you to take in all the choices you have available for cosplay.

AnimeCons.com, with their new revamped format, gives us choices in the South and abroad. In the South, despite the cancellation of Tiger Con at the University of Memphis in Tennessee, you’ve still got Atlanta Anime Day in Georgia, O-Conn in Texas, and Sukoshicon in Montgomery, Alabama.

Atlanta Anime Day will feature a dealer’s room costume contest where the dealers are the judges. This is a friendly competition to both encourage people to dress up and to reward those that do. The costumes will be judged on a variety of levels with awards/prizes given out to the winners at the end of the day.

O-Conn will be family friendly, since it’s held a Sandra Day O’Connor High School. Because of that, there are additional security guidelines in place, so be sure to check their website before showing up.

Sukoshicon will hold a cosplay contest, anime karaoke, and a rock band contest.

If you want an excuse to fly someplace far, far away, you have your pick of either JapAniManga Night in Winterthur, Switzerland or Anime.au at the Australian National University in Canberra.

In our next post, we’ll tell you about some other cons that offer cosplay, and get you prepped and ready for the anime and cosplay coming up mid-month and beyond!
