gentle giant's star wars kustomz figures
i dunno about you folks, but Gentle Giant's new rotocast-vinyl super-deformed Star Wars Kustomz line is looking mighty nifty so far, IMHO - with 2 figures/characters being solicited thus far, starting with the Scout Trooper on Speeder Bike Kustomz (priced @ USD$69.99 / Nov 2007-release / 7" tall X 12" wide) but i like their second piece more, the TIE Fighter Pilot on TIE Fighter Kustomz (same

andrew bell @ the vader project
TOYSREVIL: what was the genesis/inspiration for Darthodontics? what was the theme? and how was your process like, making this custom?ANDREW BELL: Darth Vader is usually all hard, glossy, black, cold and terrifying.. I wanted to change that to be more organic, a little gross, and still somewhat terrifying for entirely different reasons. Bring a little of what's inside that helmet to the outside.

shawnimals @ the vader project
TOYSREVIL: what was the genesis/inspiration for your "Haunted Vader Helmet" theme and custom? SHAWN.S: To be honest, I was totally intimidated when the thing showed up. I couldn't for the life of my figure out what would be good to do because it was Darth f_cking Vader! How could it be anything else? I finally got past that through sketches, and after trying three different ideas, I finally

So I was excited as shit in a dynamite barrel when i was asked to participate in this project ... the coolest thing about the helmets? They were all made from the original mold and they are WAY bigger than i imagined. David Prowse has a huge dome." [via]- who

brian flynn @ the vader project
TOYSREVIL: what was the genesis/inspiration for the custom? what's the theme?BRIAN FLYNN: I wanted to see if I could give the helmet a couple different views and personalities. You get a completely different read from the front, back or the side. I wanted to make it a bit of a bird helmet with the eyes on the side and beak in the center from the front, but with the giant mouth opening up for

MAD @ the vader project
TOYSREVIL: what was the genesis/inspiration for the custom? why wood veneer for the helmet?MAD: I wanted to step outside my usual media of just paint. I had been working with a good friend of mine who has an amazing wood shop on some projects. We started talking about the Vader project and he mentioned some very thin veneer he had in his shop... A light clicked on in my head and he helped walk

the vader project directory
when i first received Dov Kelemer's press release for The Vader Project, a myriad of thoughts, emotions and ideas popped into mind, not least becoz the concept of customized 1:1-scaled Vader helmets by the creme-de-la-creme of the urban art world (et al) is fanboy-brill - but also becoz i'd felt it was an interesting (to say the least, IMHO) marriage + blend of both Urban Art (Toys) and the
