my family's version of a "christmas dinner" was down @ Changi Village's "famous" Nasi Ayam Penyet (fried smashed/flattened chicken served in a wooden bowl with a heap-helping of uber-spicy chilli *yikes*), yummy Satay and Tahu Goreng ~ *slurp*~ altho chicken was too dry and salty, and the chilli was waaaay spicy (im weak lah, i know :p), but t'was the company that counted, innit? ... and of coz

what is Orh Nee? = "a Teochew yam paste / hot dessert made of yam, pumpkin, etc., ground into a smooth, creamy paste, mixed with oil and sweetened. topped with pumpkin, gingko nuts and water chestnuts" [paraphrased via] ie: my favourite all-time Teochew dessert, with intense memories of my dad cooking this dish decades ago, a grey-hued purplish base (color of yam) with a bright orange pumpkin
