El Hazard: The Magnificent World

In the ruins beneath Shinanome High School, Makoto encounters Ifrit, an ancient, mysterious entity who transports him to the parallel world of El Hazard. Sakura and her classmates in grade 6-2, are all very busy preparing a play for the Nadesico festival. Even though it`s summer holidays, daily rehearsals are keeping everyone very busy. During this time, Sakura unexpectedly runs into Syaoran and Meilin who have suddenly come to visit from Hong Kong. While Syaoran has already expressed his feelings to Sakura, Sakura hasn`t had a chance to tell Syaoran her true feelings. Sakura determines to tell Syaoran her true feelings but things always go wrong whenever she tries.

Best friend, Tomoyo suggests that she, Syaoran, Meilin and Sakura all go to the new amusement park. Imagine yourself waking up inside a sleeping tube twenty-two years after being frozen in deep sleep inside a medical facility. You awake to a world even more terrifying than your worst nightmare -- a world where human beings are hunted down by monsters like nothing more than tiny insects. Welcome to Earth in year 2031, a time when the planet is no longer ours.

For Kaidou Yuuji, that nightmare became reality the moment he woke up, awakened by a mobile assult team on a mission to retrieve any remaining 'sleepers' in the medical facility ('Sleepers' are people such as Yuuji himself, who had been misled by their doctors to believe that they all had an uncurable illness and has to be put to deep sleep until the time when a cure can be found in the future).

First aired early October in 1999, the 26 episode "Blue Gender" series probably reminds most people of the movie Starship Troopers in a sense, anime style. With a little twist -- this time the battle field isn't some planet far away, but Earth itself. And guess what -- this time, the monsters won the fight.

Instead of the typical "good guys always win" stereotype, the storyline of Blue Gender begins with a glance of the harsh life people have to endure after losing their own planet to the powerful creatures, and their fight to take back their home planet. To emphasize the life our heroes in this series have to live by every single day, there's more violence and death added than most other anime series in general. So, for those of you who doesn't have a stronge stomach for blood or cruelty, better stay away from this series. BUT, if you are a big Science Fiction fan like myself, and love anime series with lots of mechas and battles, this is most definitly a series you won't want to miss.

Overman King Gainer

In the distant future, in a distant corner of Siberia, people live in domed cities called Domepolises. These are the primary human living spaces on Earth, which became uninhabitable years ago from environmental destruction. Now, parts of the Earth are becoming habitable again. Large portions of the Domepolises are breaking off to escape the powers that control the domes and trade.

Gainer Sanga, video game champ on his 200th victory, becomes an unwilling helper in his hometown`s Exodus when he is wrongfully arrested by the Siberian Railway. He pilots a giant mecha which he dubs `King Gainer` after his own video game handle. He is challenged to fight other Overmen as Yapan tries to escape across Siberia.

Neo Ranga

Neo Ranga follows the trials and tribulations of the three beautiful Shimabara sisters, Minami, Ushio and Yuuhi—who by some strange twist of fate, are inadvertently linked to a gigantic monster-god who hails from a tiny island kingdom in the South Pacific called Barou. After being invited to the island of Barou, the three girls learn of their missing older brother’s fate, as well as the fact that they are to inherit this island kingdom in the absence of a suitable male heir.

Upon visiting the idol of Ranga deep within the jungle, the irritated trio actually manages to awaken the sleeping giant from its dormancy. With this event in mind, it comes as no surprise to them when the lumbering behemoth Neo Ranga arrives in Tokyo months later to seek out its three lovely masters. Instead of rolling out the red carpet for their gigantic friend, the Japanese Self Defense Force rolls out the tanks and artillery to halt the behemoth’s advance through downtown Tokyo.

The arrival of Neo Ranga in Tokyo is but the first of many in a long series of chaotic events that are thrust upon the Shimabara sisters and their colossal companion in this zany romp through the lives of three beautiful sisters, their nephew Joel and the gigantic monster they love.
